Ferrari Pop Bike 4

We all know that Ferrari has long been an inspiration for the designers across the world to create their concept vehicles with a prancing horse logo. We already have had some Ferrari concepts featured on autochunk, and here is one entirely different. This concept is dubbed the Ferrari - The Pop Bike and is the imagination of Australian industrial designer, Kourosh H.Esfahani. As the level of pollution and space on the city roads is cramping with each passing day, the eco friendly and compact vehicles are the need of the hour. Ferrari Pop Bike is designed to solve both problems in the future. The Ferrari Pop bike is placed well between bicycles and fierce motorbikes in a similar way as tablets as a product between phones and laptops. The Ferrari concept is not only economical but also user-friendly, for it is a two wheeled, battery powered electric vehicle. Aimed to provide the students and fresh professionals their daily commute without polluting the environment wee bit, Ferrari Pop Bike is self-balancing, thanks to the use of two wheels together. The bike will cater pretty well to the interests of people who love the thrill of biking but avoid riding one due to the risk involved. BMW PCX Tricycle 2

As the population grows world over and the major cities across the globe are witnessing the flux of people to the cities, the increased population outnumbers the infrastructure available. Consequently, the space in the cities and on roads is increasingly cramped. This is happening in Nigeria too, which is the largest populated country in Africa. The roads in the country are narrow and in dilapidated condition, which not only damages the vehicles but result in congestion thereby affecting the mobility every day. As a result, most of the Nigerians generally use bicycles; motorbikes and tricycle for their regular commutes. These vehicles have multiple benefits: they occupy less space on the road, offer easy maneuvering in thick traffic and consume less fuel, which makes them economical too. Keeping all these things in mind, Nigerian designer, Uji Terkuma, has come up with BMW PCX Tricycle, which blends the bike-riding thrill with the comforts of a car. Its small size allows the easy maneuverability in cramped roads and through heavy traffic. On the top of this, BMW PCX Tricycle has eco friendly traits as it gets power from the four electric motors. Apart from this, the vehicle for two bears the minimum weight, thanks to the extensive use of carbon fiber and carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP). In order to increase the aerodynamics efficiency and optimum weight performance, the vehicle’s tires are made of Carbon fiber disc. The cell of the car is made using the high strength steel (HSS) to ensure the safety of the occupants from the external impact forces. [gallery link="file" orderby="rand"]

BikeBorg – Enhancing interaction between rider and the bicycle

BikeBorg 1

In a future scenario where the availability of fossil fuels is at nadir, recurrent financial instability has troubled the populace and environment pollution is at pinnacle, bicycles will only be the mode of transportation for the most of the people. We have had many bicycle designs so far that focus on the form of the bike but never on the interaction between bike and its rider. In such a scenario bicycle will overtake as the main mode of transportation and cars will only be affordable for the rich a few. The bikes will now be the social status and symbol of every individual and megacities will see the bicycle based sub-cultures creeping in. One of such cultures, as per designers, is BikeBorgs that combine aspects of cyberpunk and DIY hardware hacking with their personally modified bikes. Keeping the above scenario in the mind, three students viz. Hideaki Matsui, Andrew Nip and Markus Schmeiduch from the Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design (CIID) propagate enhancing interaction between bike and its rider. The Bikeborgs will remain physically connected to the bikes and this connection allows them transfer of data and energy intermediately. The bike creates a self-sustaining system by harvesting energy from cycling power as well as the body heat of the rider. On the other, Bikeborgs will be able to customize the bike as per their needs. The modifications can range from adding the sensors to measure the level of pollutants and many others like adding signal lights to ease the riding. [gallery link="file" orderby="rand"]

Sky Voyage spaceship

Apart from driving/riding compact vehicles to eschew traffic congestion in a future scenario, the other thing we can do is to take the aerial route. What if it’s eco friendly too? Well, that kills those proverbial two birds with one stone. Keeping this thing in mind, a designer has come up with Sky Voyage – a personal air transportation meant for everyday commuters in Auckland, New Zealand, where most of the vehicles spent one hour in traffic daily, resulting in 1500 tons of emission and $1billion economic loss every year. Meant for the year 2031, Sky Voyage airship concept is the part of a project called ‘Dream of Flying’ and aims to utilize airspace to deal firmly with the traffic problems in the city. The Sky Voyage spaceship blends airship and paraglider flying methods in one. The vehicle has a hydrogen filled gas container that expands vertically to give the vehicle a natural uplift and allows the it to take off and land vertically in a small open space with minimum ground footprint, including roof tops and residential driveways. After the take-off, the air bag takes the horizontal position in a gliding wing shape, thus enabling Sky Voyage to take on long flights with relative ease. As we already stated in the initial lines that it’s eco friendly too and yes, spaceship gets that much needed extra propulsion for the take-off and start of gliding from a fuel cell powered electric turbine engine. Range Rover 3XR concept 1

If a designer has to envision a Range Rover to the Russian car lovers, how will it look like? Well, it is but obvious that the designer should know the Russian mentality, road condition in the country and, of course, target buyers. Well, this is what Ina Hadykina from London Royal College of Art has exactly done by designing a Range Rover, that she says has been conceptualized while keeping in mind the Russian mentality associated with cars. In a further description of her project, the designer says that Russia is a country of contrasts and thus gives her project a similar slogan, i.e. ‘Contrast’. Targeting the young Russian generation, the Range Rover 3XR concept is imagined to cope up with the challenges posed by environment in the country and flaunts an elegant stance, which is clean and dynamic. Keeping the Russian ethos in mind, the Range Rover 3XR concept consists of two contrary parts – the black and white. The black part in the body of the Range Rover is made of traditional Russian birch wood which is rough and solid in form as well as on surface. The white part of the vehicle highlights the modern pure technology. Both contrasting parts constitute the coherent whole of the vehicle that communicates with the contradictory yet consistent new Russian soul. [gallery link="file" orderby="rand"]

Lamborghini Insecta Concept The designer: Iulian Bumbu About the concept: Lamborghini Insecta Concept is a design study from the aspiring Romanian car designer, Iulian Bumbu, who holds the masters degree in car design from a Milan institute and had internship at Alfa Romeo's styling department. For the radical Insecta concept, as the name suggests, he borrows design elements from the bugs instead of bovines. Lamborghini Inseta concept blends organic shapes with Lamborghini design language and integrates themes culled from the body armor observed on certain species of insects. For the powertrain, Iulian looks up to Gallardo and comes out as a compelling successor of the current LP560. Electric Lamborghini Rompighiaccio The designer: Denis Archambault About the concept: With Electric Lamborghini Rompighiaccio, designer Denis Archambault tries to break the shibboleth that supercars can’t be ecological. The inspiration for the concept came from the snow sculptures created by wind in the Arctic landscape and from a wolf’s anatomy. The concept is imagined with zero-emission electric drive and won’t pollute environment a wee bit but at the same time it ensures the performance and driving thrills that its gas guzzling counterparts offer. Lamborghini Conquisto concept The designer: David Cordoso About the concept: Lamborghini Conquisto from David Cordoso, a Belgian designer, is a two-door rear engine mounted SUV/Crossover that seems to flex muscles with Porsche Cayenne. The design just makes us think how a Gallardo would look like if Volkswagen Group were to raise the suspension and re-body it as a two-door SUV.

Bentley releases Mulsanne Convertible Concept sketches

Bentley Mulsanne sedan is the heartbeat of millions of luxury car lovers and brand’s fans. However, it’s a rare sight when you see a $300,000 Bentley Mulsanne rolling on the road. The car arrived in 2010 and with that ended the range-topping Azure convertible thus leaving only Continental GTC range as open roof models in Bentley lineup. The brand now aims to add a new convertible version to its range and gives us a sneak peek into how the Bentley Mulsanne will look like in a convertible avatar. Aimed at the new and emerging markets, the interior of the future open convertible concept gets inspiration from the luxury powerboats. The sketches of the two-door, four-seat soft top convertible version from Bentley was revealed at a private event during the past weekend at Pebble Beach which was latter followed by the press release. The sketches of the car have 1956 Drophead Coupe printed along, which is clear indication that it  will have a great influence on the convertible Mulsanne. Expect the convertible version to come with the same 6.75-liter V-8 as in Mulsanne. Engine is connected with eight-speed transmission that sends power to the rear wheels. If we have a look at the sketches, we can see the striking rear fender, a low top in comparison to high beltline of the car as well as trunk lid and hood form a line that cocoons the cabin like a boat's gunwale. What seems to be a possible successor to the Azure, the Mulsanne based concept also features two elongated doors, a chopped wheelbase, raked windshield, hydroformed aluminum panels and accentuated LED lights. Inside, you can find a comfortable seating space for four with leather finish, polished stainless steel and signature wood. Though Bentley stresses that its designers merely gave a glimpse of future soft-top convertible, but we assume that the concept is already near to production and can be revealed at any of the upcoming auto shows. Bertone Raymanta 2012 concept 5

Here is another supercar concept and it’s really awesome. The brainchild of Maxime de Keiser, the Bertone Raymanta 2012 concept pays warm tribute to 1960s dream cars by Bertone. The designer created the concept with the intent to bring forth the visions of the designers from sixties who were obsessed with futuristic vehicle shapes that include spaceship like lines, advanced materials and technologies and aerodynamics. The inspiration for the concept came from the prototypes of the past that include Bertone designed Lancia Stratos Zero and the Alfa Romeo Carabo as well as 512 S and Modulo by Pininfarina. Apart from that, the minimal shape of the vehicle owes to the shapes of sea creatures like manta ray and the shark-whale to name a few. What you can see as one of the most prominent features of the concept is its side windows, mirrors and rear window replaced by cameras that are aligned with the interior displays. In the words of the designer, it helps avoid breaking the fluidity of the main lines with elaborate details and at the same time create an eerie sense of the blindness that reinforces the sense of mystery, danger and otherworldliness associated with fabulous creatures of the deep. Thanks, Maxime de Keiser! [gallery link="file" orderby="rand"]

While the EXP 9 F SUV is aimed to make Bentley’s presence felt in the SUV segment and this new endeavor, if ever comes into being, will put the brand in the sports car arena. However, the Bentley remains tight lipped about the details or offering any insight about the vehicle whatsoever. If the rumors turn into reality and Bentley gives nod to the production of the sports car, it will join EXP 9 F SUV in 2015. The whole drama is expected to reach the climax with the reveal of the Bentley sports car concept at 2012 Paris Motor Show in late September. Keep your fingers crossed by that time and stay tuned, as we will keep you updated on the whole issue. Via: Caranddriver

If you want a sports car that has a lot of luggage space and it could function like a truck to carry your bikes, surfboards and all, you are a nut. Because that’s not a sports car meant to be. However, going contrary to the belief, UK designer, Daniel Pearson, who says he owns a sports car, is disappointed with it for the reasons mentioned above. Hence, he imagines Honda UTE concept wherein he combines the functions of a sports car and a utility vehicle. By delineating Honda UTE concept, Daniel reaps the benefits of a sports car and makes it more practical (read truck for carrying loads of paraphernalia) for multiple user experiences in different situations. The UTE concept features fully usable tailgate for loading luggage, clip-on spoiler to give rear downforce when you want to enjoy the thrill of a sports car, large vent upfront for cooling, detachable spoiler and LED rear lights that are visible only when in use. Honda UTE concept is imagined with 2.0 turbocharged VTEC engine coupled with electronic boost controller to provide three levels of power for different road conditions. Engine is capable of developing 300bhp of maximum power that propel the rear wheels of this beautiful UTE Concept. The concept is good and the imagination impressive and I must say it’s a new thing imagined altogether but for a wrong reason.

Ondrej Jirec’s Lamborghini Perdigón concept

Giving shape to a Lamborghini concept, which is not only different from the current models but is worth the brand name is really a herculean task. But that surely doesn’t stop designers across the world to come up with their interpretations for the Italian automaker and they aren’t always different or rather say impressive but the one pictured above is. One of such designers is Ondrej Jirec who is a final year Transport Design student at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. Ondrej Jirec names his concept as Lamborghini Perdigón and it’s impressive, I must say. Apart from following the Lamborghini tradition to name its cars after Italian fighting bulls, Lamborghini Perdigón concept is a hyper car inspired from Lamborghini Reventon and takes the stealth jet inspired design language to next level. Other than the sharp angles and polygonal surfaces that’ll make you think of F117 Nighthawk and F22 Raptor, Lamborghini Perdigón concept features distinctive design elements like large intake placed under windscreen and a fan like design inside that not only makes it appear like a jet engine but also adds more to the killer look of the vehicle. Inside, luminous interior that jell with its aggressive exteriors, high tech steering wheel that houses many command buttons as well as digital display that shows the gear selection, high center console to conduit air from the front air intakes to centrally mounted engine and accommodating i-Drive inspired control knobs as well as glass canopy completes the package. Designed to give a stiff competition to the likes of Bugatti Veyron, Perdigón concept might not see the light of the day ever. But it’s imagination worth commercialization and would have surely been a great addition to the Lamborghini lineup. Via: Diseno-art [gallery link="file" orderby="rand"]

DC Design’s Tornado concept 5

It’s not that we hear or read about some awesome car concepts from India too often. However, when we do, it’s often from DC Design. After presenting India’s first supercar in Avanti, now DC Design comes up with another amazing concept wherein it combines the supercar performance and style with SUV’s off-roading capabilities. Christened as Tornado, the concept is based on the Imperator Concept presented at Delhi Auto Expo back in 2010. The Tornado is a 2+2-seater car with healthy ground clearance. Tornado concept gets power from an Audi sourced 6-liter V12 powerplant that develops at least 25% extra power and torque than what is available in standard (500PS, and 1000Nm in some Audi vehicles) configuration. Engine is aligned with sequential shift gearbox that transfers power to all the wheels. The cardinal feature of the concept is its massive ground clearance, courtesy to 325/25/28 tires. Some of the other features of the concept include four individual seats in the cabin with adjustable cushions, floating dashboard and controls are easily manageable to suit the left hand drive markets. This is not all but the Tornado concept also features drive by wire, brake by wire, steer by wire, HUD and rear view camera as well as iDCdrive’ system that allows occupants play with the gizmos of the car.
